Self-descriptions are transient; your emphasis shifts with mood, your current focus and immediate needs. Noticing what is static about yourself can reveal why you do what you do.

About Me

Being on the cusp of new knowledge and impactful technologies excites me, and science is how I get to ride this wave. I am early in my career as a physicist, but throughout my MSci I managed to capture what motivated me, and I can’t wait to bring this into my upcoming PhD (looking to start October 2026).

My research interests revolve around quantum computing and tailoring it to its ultimate use — to solve other problems. Algorithms, architectures, the lot. Solving these problems is my gateway into the tapestry of condensed matter theory; one I look forward to unraveling further.

My latest work has been on Majorana quasiparticles and the fractal structure of quasicrystals. I focus on the interaction of topological phase and fractality in Majorana systems. Find out about all my projects and play in research.

Beyond Physics

Whenever I had the opportunity I chose to keep my studies interdisciplinary. However, even this doesn’t fully capture the root of my academic curiosity.

The brain has always been a touchstone of my psychological, philosophical and scientific interests. It’s the maze of links from brain structure to emergent behaviour to consciousness and existence to physical reality and back to what makes up that structure again which fascinate me. Then, dare you ask exactly what we are doing in exploring all this?

These are a few of the books most important to my personal journey through these topics. They are ordered along one such thread of curiosity. This isn’t the place to elaborate, but check out this blog post to find out more.

Honest curiosities don’t often fit neatly into our standard categories, that fail like hands grasping at water. As curiosity flows, formal education alters its course, but will never change its source.

Outside the Lab

Check out a few fun pictures of me getting up to some of the things I love doing when not in serious thought... I am a pretty avid climber, love hiking and love my van; I am partial to badminton, and have always loved sailing.

For a long time I have competed at a high level in various sailing disciplines. More recently I have also been working to share this passion through the Western Keelboat Association, a charity of my own making for the increase of access to keelboat racing.

Things people do don’t tell you who they are. Though, we desperately hope they do, otherwise we wouldn’t know anyone.
